Transport Workers Warn of Protest as Punjab Government Delays Demands

Chandigarh, March 5

Resham Singh Gill, President of the Punjab Roadways, Punbus and PRTC Contract Workers Union Punjab, said during a press conference at the Chandigarh Press Club that the Punjab government is unnecessarily delaying the workers’ demands.

He said that in response to the government’s inaction, gate rallies will be held across Punjab on March 6. If the government still fails to respond positively to their demands, the union will begin a hunger strike at the Mohali Bus Stand starting March 9.

Apart from Resham Singh Gill, several other leaders including Shamsher Singh Dhillo, Harkesh Kumar Vicky, Pradeep Sharma, Jalor Singh, Rohi Ram and Baljit Singh were also present at the press conference.

The leaders jointly stated that multiple meetings had been held with the Punjab Transport Minister, the Secretary of the Transport Department, and other officials, but none of their demands have been resolved so far.

Resham Singh Gill further alleged that the government is promoting buses under the kilometre scheme, while avoiding the induction of buses into the government transport department.
