Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Presents 4-Year Education Report Card, Highlights Major Reforms and Increased Budget

Chandigarh, March 30

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held an important press conference today, with Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains also present. On the occasion, the Chief Minister presented a four-year report card of the Education Department.

Bhagwant Mann said that the standard of education should be uniform everywhere and that countries which prioritize education always progress. He stated that previous governments neglected schools, but his government has implemented the Delhi model in Punjab’s schools, as the Aam Aadmi Party first improved the standard of education in Delhi.

He further said that a budget of ₹19,273 crore has been allocated for education, which is 7 percent higher than the previous budget. He emphasized that education is the foundation of any nation, but in India there are two kinds of education systems—one for the privileged (“India”) and another for the common people (“Bharat”), which should not be the case.

The Chief Minister claimed that Punjab has surpassed Kerala to achieve the number one position in the education sector. He also highlighted initiatives such as “Schools on Wheels” and the introduction of buses in government schools. For the first time, yellow buses have been introduced for government schools, benefiting over 15,000 students by providing transportation facilities. He also took a dig at opposition parties, saying they should not object to the yellow color now.

He added that for the first time, parent-teacher meetings have been introduced in Punjab schools, along with the appointment of campus managers. Additionally, 1,323 security guards have been deployed in schools.

He further stated that only three states in the country currently provide internet facilities in schools, and Punjab is one of them. A budget of ₹20,000 crore has been allocated to provide high-speed internet to schools across the state.
