Bathinda, March 9
Bollywood actress and BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut is scheduled to appear today in the Bathinda court in connection with a defamation case filed over her controversial remarks about women farmers. She has been granted exemption from appearing in person and will attend the hearing through video conferencing.
Meanwhile, the complainant’s counsel, Advocate Raghubir Singh Bahniwal, said that two witnesses will be presented in the court against Ranaut during today’s hearing. There is also a possibility that the court may hear a plea regarding the seizure of Ranaut’s passport.
The defamation case was filed by an elderly woman, Mahinder Kaur, a resident of Bahadargarh Jandian village in Bathinda, over remarks allegedly made during the 2020–21 farmers’ protest. The case has been under hearing for nearly five years. Ranaut had personally appeared before the Bathinda court last year in connection with the matter.
