Heated Exchange Between Partap Singh Bajwa and Bhagwant Mann in Punjab Assembly

Chandigarh, March 9

Partap Singh Bajwa said that in the past four years, those responsible for sacrilege incidents have not been brought to justice. He stated that the issue should be discussed in the House, adding that although it was debated earlier, six months have already passed and the accused should be given strict punishment. He alleged that the government has not held a proper discussion on the matter.

Bajwa further said that the Aam Aadmi Party government had decided three years ago to implement the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), but it has not been implemented yet. He added that his party had implemented the scheme in Himachal Pradesh.

At this point, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stood up in the House and asked Bajwa to clarify whether he was speaking on the Budget or on the Governor’s address. Bajwa became upset and responded that if that was the case, the opposition should simply be thrown out of the House. During this exchange, Bajwa and Mann engaged in a heated argument.

The Chief Minister repeatedly questioned Bajwa’s remarks and asked whether he had sought permission earlier when leaving the House. The Speaker then asked the AAP legislators to allow the Leader of the Opposition to speak. Bajwa later questioned what kind of “guarantee” it was that could not even protect its own village sarpanches.
