Chandigarh, March 9
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that every moment of the past four years of his government has been dedicated to the people. He stated that the manifestos of other parties were focused on religion, caste, and creating divisions among people, while Arvind Kejriwal included education and healthcare as key priorities in his manifesto.
After the boycott of the House by members of the Indian National Congress, Mann remarked that after 2027 the opposition benches would remain empty. He said Congress members spoke for only 17–18 minutes before staging a walkout and questioned what issues the opposition intended to discuss. He added that his government has fulfilled all the promises it made over the past four years.
Speaking about the proposed financial assistance for women, the Chief Minister said that while some families may not need ₹1,000, there are many who earn only ₹50–100 a day and for them every rupee matters. He claimed to have received many phone calls appreciating the decision. Mann also criticized the opposition for calculating monthly amounts and demanding ₹48,000, asking whether they had fulfilled their own promises such as providing jobs and “truckloads of currency.”
Taking a dig at Sukhbir Singh Badal, Mann said that he is still demanding to be made Chief Minister. He added that Badal’s father had served as Chief Minister five times, and if they had intended to do something significant, they could have done it then.
Mann clarified that ₹1,000 would not make anyone rich, but in rural and economically weaker areas every rupee has value. He highlighted that electricity and bus travel are free and medical treatment up to ₹10 lakh is also being provided free of cost.
The Chief Minister further said that the government’s kitchen scheme is not just about cooking food but also about ensuring proper nutrition for families. He emphasized that people can progress only if they eat properly and pursue education with dedication.
