Harpal Singh Cheema Calls March 8 Punjab Budget ‘Historic’, Cites Sharp Rise in Excise and GST Revenue

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the state budget to be presented on March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day, will be a historic one.

“We have achieved significant gains over the past four years. Whether it is excise or GST, the numbers clearly show our progress,” he stated.

Highlighting the increase in revenue, Cheema said that during the previous Congress government’s tenure, the state exchequer received ₹27,395 crore in excise revenue. “So far, in 46 months of our government, we have received ₹37,975 crore,” he said.

Referring to GST collections, he added that while the Congress government had generated ₹61,000 crore during its tenure, the current government has recorded ₹83,000 crore in revenue over the past four years.
