New Delhi, March 3
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “speak out” on the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, stating that silence diminishes India’s image on the global stage.
Rahul Gandhi said that India must be “morally clear” on the conflict and should have the “courage to defend” international law and human life.
In a post on X, he wrote, “India must be morally clear. We should have the courage to speak clearly in defense of international law and human life. Our foreign policy is rooted in sovereignty and the peaceful resolution of disputes — and it must remain consistent.”
He further questioned, “Should Prime Minister Modi speak? Does he support the assassination of a head of state as a way to define the world order? Silence now diminishes India’s standing in the world.”
Expressing concern over rising hostilities in the West Asia region, Rahul Gandhi also called for dialogue and restraint to help restore peace.
