Amritsar, March 27
The Shiromani Akali Dal (Punr Surjit) today staged a symbolic protest outside the local DC office under the leadership of its president, Giani Harpreet Singh. The protest was held to demand strict punishment for those accused of disrespecting Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and to call for the immediate conduct of the long-pending general elections of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which have been delayed for the past 16 years.
On this occasion, Advocate Jasbir Singh Ghuman, Jathedar Raghbir Singh Rajasansi, Bhai Manjit Singh Bhura Kohna (member of the Shiromani Committee), Ajepal Singh Mirankot, and Madhupal Singh Goga, along with other party leaders, were present.
Addressing party workers, Giani Harpreet Singh stated that a strict law should be enacted to ensure harsh punishment for those involved in sacrilege incidents. He also emphasized that the long-pending SGPC general elections should be conducted without further delay.
After the protest, party leaders submitted a memorandum addressed to the Deputy Commissioner outlining their demands.
