Uproar Disrupts Parliament of India Budget Session; Lok Sabha Adjourned After Protests Demanding Hardeep Singh Puri’s Resignation

New Delhi, February 13

Proceedings in both houses of the Parliament of India could not continue for the entire day on the 13th day of the Budget Session. The Lok Sabha functioned for only about 10 minutes, while the Rajya Sabha operated for nearly two hours. The proceedings of both houses will now resume on March 9.

As soon as the House convened at 11 a.m. on Friday, opposition Members of Parliament began raising slogans demanding the resignation of Hardeep Singh Puri, shouting “Hardeep Puri, resign!” The House was adjourned within five minutes. When the session resumed at noon, several bills related to the Education and Law Ministries were introduced amid the uproar.

Following this, Chairperson Sandhya Ray adjourned the Lok Sabha until March 9. The Parliament’s Budget Session is being held in two phases—the first from January 28 to February 13, and the second beginning on March 9 after a 23-day break, continuing until April 2.
