Supreme Court Calls Tree Plantation Key to Improving Delhi-NCR Air Quality

New Delhi, February 20

The Supreme Court has observed that planting trees in Delhi is one of the most effective and long-term solutions to prevent the deterioration of air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR). The Court stated that when it comes to improving the Air Quality Index (AQI), afforestation remains one of the most practical, effective, and sustainable measures.

These remarks were made by Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant. The observations came during the hearing of a matter related to the felling of trees in the Ridge area by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), where the Court was also considering the appointment of environmental experts in the case.
