Amritsar, February 19
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has given the Head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib, Giani Raghbir Singh, 72 hours to present evidence supporting the serious allegations he recently levelled.
This was disclosed by SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami while speaking to reporters after an important meeting of the Executive Committee here today. He said that as per the decision taken by the committee, if Giani Raghbir Singh fails to present evidence within 72 hours, the President has been authorized to initiate appropriate action against him.
Advocate Dhami also addressed statements allegedly made regarding the lands of Gurdwara Amb Sahib and Gurdwara Bhatha Sahib in Ropar. He said that former Jathedar and President of Akali Dal (Punarsurjit), Giani Harpreet Singh, has been asked to either apologize for the alleged misleading statements or face a defamation case. The manager of Gurdwara Bhatha Sahib has been directed to file a defamation suit if an apology is not issued.
He claimed that all actions taken in connection with the land matters were carried out strictly in accordance with SGPC rules and regulations.
It is noteworthy that earlier, opposition member Master Mithu Singh had claimed outside the meeting that a decision had been taken to remove Giani Raghbir Singh from his post, stating that he had recorded his dissenting note on the matter.
