Sukhbir Badal Promises to Reopen Attari-Wagah Border for Trade if Akali Dal Returns to Power

Attari Border (Amritsar), February 21

Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday said that if his party comes to power in Punjab, the Attari-Wagah border will be reopened to allow open trade with Pakistan.

Addressing a large gathering of party workers at the “Punjab Bachao” rally held at the grain market in the historic town of Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna in the Attari Assembly constituency, Badal stated that restoring cross-border trade would be a priority for the party.

He further said that once the Shiromani Akali Dal forms the government, special focus will be given to providing employment opportunities to youth in the border areas. Industrialists would be offered additional incentives and facilities to encourage them to set up factories in the region.

Badal also recalled that during the tenure of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, border residents were provided with maximum facilities and benefits. He alleged that the present governments of the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab have discontinued several facilities for border residents, adding that these would be restored on a priority basis if the Akali Dal returns to power.
