Chandigarh, February 26
To ensure a swift and impartial probe into the sensitive case of 328 missing sacred copies of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, a new Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted. The investigation of the case, earlier registered by the Bureau of Investigation, has now been handed over to the newly formed team.
It is noteworthy that the case was registered at Police Station ‘C’ Division, Amritsar, under FIR No. 168 dated December 7, 2025. The case has been filed under Sections 295, 295-A, 409, 465, and 120-B of the IPC.
As per the fresh orders issued, the three previously constituted teams have been dissolved and a new SIT has been formed. The team will function under the supervision of Police Commissioner Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar (IPS).
Nanak Singh (IPS) has been appointed as the Chairman of the SIT. Other members of the team include SSP Khanna Darpan Ahluwalia (IPS), SP Detective Patiala Gurbans Singh Bains (PPS), SP Special Branch Mohali Sukhnaaz Singh (PPS), ACP Amritsar Harminder Singh (PPS), and SHO C-Division Sub-Inspector Rajwant Kaur.
The orders clearly state that the Police Commissioner, Amritsar, will provide all logistical and administrative support to the SIT to ensure that the investigation is conducted in a fair, scientific manner and completed within a stipulated timeframe.
According to sources, given the sensitivity of the matter, the probe will be carried out under high-level supervision and the accused will be brought to justice.
When contacted by journalists, Dr. Nanak Singh said that the responsibility has just been assigned to him. A meeting has been scheduled to review the investigation conducted so far, and further action will be taken based on concrete evidence.
