Orange Alert Issued as Rain, Thunderstorms, and Hailstorms Hit Punjab and Chandigarh

Over the past two days, the weather in Punjab and Chandigarh has changed significantly. Intermittent rainfall has led to a drop in temperature, increasing the chill in the region. The temperature has fallen by 5.4°C and is now 2.2°C below normal.

The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for today, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and hailstorms. Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 50–60 km/h. In Patiala, the temperature was recorded at 32.1°C.

According to the department, adverse weather conditions are likely in 22 districts today. Eight districts may experience hailstorms and lightning, while 14 districts are expected to witness thunderstorms and lightning.

The districts likely to be affected by hailstorms and lightning include Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Gurdaspur, Nawanshahr, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and Mohali.

The remaining 14 districts—Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, and Sangrur—are expected to experience thunderstorms.
