Attack on Shashi Tharoor’s Convoy: One Detained, Others Identified

New Delhi, April 4

An alleged attack on the convoy of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has come to light, in which his gunman and driver were targeted. Police said today that one person has been taken into custody, while the other accused have been identified and will be arrested soon.

According to the police, the incident took place on Friday evening in the Chelithode area near Tiruvalli in Vandoor. Tharoor was on his way to attend an election campaign event for Congress leader A.P. Anil Kumar.

Vandoor police said that a case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the MP’s gunman, Ratheesh K.P. As per the FIR, a five-member group arrived in two vehicles and blocked the MP’s convoy.

Police officials stated that the road where the incident occurred is very narrow. The gunman had asked the vehicle in front to speed up and give way to the convoy. This led to an argument, following which the accused allegedly attacked the gunman and the driver.

After the incident, the police and local administration swung into action. One accused was detained late last night, while the remaining suspects have been identified and are expected to be arrested soon.
