NIA Chargesheets Two in Jalandhar Grenade Attack Case, Declares Shahzad Bhatti Absconder

Jalandhar, April 3

The National Investigation Agency has taken action in last year’s grenade attack on YouTuber Roger Sandhu’s house in Raipur Rasulpur village of rural Jalandhar. The agency has filed a chargesheet against two accused in the case, including Pakistan-linked gangster Shahzad Bhatti.

After taking over the case from Punjab Police in December 2025, the NIA, in a supplementary chargesheet filed before a special court, declared Shahzad Bhatti as an absconder. Another accused named in the chargesheet is Dipender Pratap Singh alias Deepan Rana, who has already been arrested.

Both accused have been charged under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Explosive Substances Act, Arms Act, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Punjab Police had initially registered an FIR in March 2025 and had already chargesheeted nine individuals based on its investigation.

The grenade attack took place on the morning of March 16, 2025, at Sandhu’s residence in Raipur Rasulpur village of Jalandhar district. NIA investigations revealed that Shahzad Bhatti had planned the attack while staying abroad. The attack was part of a larger terror conspiracy involving multiple modules engaged in targeted killings, recruitment, and smuggling of arms and ammunition into India.

According to the NIA, Shahzad issued instructions to those involved in the attack through encrypted communications. Dipender Pratap Singh played a key local role for the gangster by providing logistical support to the attackers. Investigations also revealed his involvement in arranging illegal weapons and explosives.

So far, a total of 10 accused have been arrested in the case, while seven, including Shahzad Bhatti, remain absconding and untraced. The NIA continues its investigation to locate the absconding accused and dismantle the wider terror network behind the attack.
