Chandigarh, April 1
The Chandigarh Administration has announced a major recruitment drive, bringing great news for the youth. As part of this initiative, preparations have been completed to fill 234 Clerk and 23 Steno Typist posts in the first phase. According to official information, eligible candidates will be able to apply for these posts starting from April 6.
The administration aims to complete the recruitment process within 4 to 6 months. This is the first time after the implementation of Central Service Rules that such a large number of regular recruitments for clerks and steno typists is being conducted in Chandigarh, generating significant enthusiasm among job seekers.
To ensure transparency, a fully online system has been developed for the recruitment process. A written examination will be conducted within one to one-and-a-half months after the application process ends. Candidates who qualify in the written test will also have to undergo a typing test and a stenography test. The entire recruitment process will be conducted through an independent agency.
Chandigarh’s Chief Secretary, H. Rajesh Prasad, has directed the personnel department to fill vacant posts at the earliest. Currently, there are around 1,100 sanctioned posts for clerks and steno typists in the administration, out of which approximately 500 to 600 positions are vacant. Many of these posts are presently being managed through contractual or outsourced staff.
Candidates from Chandigarh as well as other states and Union Territories across the country will be eligible to apply. All details regarding the recruitment will be made available on the official website. These recruitments will be carried out under the Common Cadre Recruitment Rules 2026. The rules had been under preparation for nearly two years and have now been implemented following approval from the central government.
In the coming months, recruitment drives will also be launched to fill vacancies in the Chandigarh Police and the Education Department. The administration has set a target to fill around 2,000 posts through regular recruitment during the year 2026.
The 234 Clerk and 23 Steno Typist posts fall under Group ‘C’. Selected candidates will receive an initial salary of around ₹50,000, which is expected to increase further with the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission.
Jobs in the Chandigarh Administration attract candidates from across the country, and this recruitment drive is expected to provide a significant opportunity for aspiring youth.
