Sonia Gandhi Slams Modi Government’s Silence on Killing of Ali Khamenei, Calls It “Not Neutrality but Surrender”

 New Delhi, March 3

Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi strongly criticized the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that its silence on the “targeted killing” of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, is “not neutrality but surrender.”

In an editorial (op-ed) article published in a newspaper, Sonia Gandhi said that India’s lack of response “confirms a troubling silence in the face of this tragedy.”

On March 1, Iran confirmed that its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, had been killed a day earlier in targeted strikes allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel. The assassination of a sitting head of state amid ongoing diplomatic engagements marks a serious rupture in contemporary international relations.

Beyond the shock of the incident itself, Sonia Gandhi emphasized that what stands out equally starkly is New Delhi’s silence on the matter.
