Sarb Dharam Morcha Holds Protest in Patiala, Demands Strict Law Against Desecration of Religious Scriptures

Patiala, March 18

A joint protest was held today at the Mini Secretariat, outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Patiala, by the Sarb Dharam Morcha formed in Samana, demanding the enactment of a strict law against the desecration of religious scriptures.

A large number of Sikh devotees and leaders participated in the protest.

On this occasion, Akali Dal Murdabad president Giani Harpreet Singh said that the repeated incidents of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji are hurting the honour and dignity of the Sikh community. He alleged that governments are shirking their responsibility, which is leading to an increase in such incidents.

Warning the government, he said that the supreme status of Guru Sahib will never be allowed to be undermined, and if a strict law is not enacted soon, the next protest will be held in Chandigarh in front of the Chief Minister’s residence.

Senior leader Surjit Singh Rakhra, while addressing the gathering, said that the Sarb Dharam Morcha has been active in Samana for a long time, demanding a strong law against the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib Ji as well as other religious scriptures. He said that the government has remained unmoved and, instead, pressure is being put on the devotees.

During the protest, the participants unanimously decided that if their demands continue to be ignored, the agitation will be intensified in the coming days and a major protest will be staged in Chandigarh.

Leaders including Satwinder Singh Tohrha, Jagjit Singh Kohli, and a large number of devotees were also present on the occasion.
