Rahul Gandhi Slams Narendra Modi Over Foreign Policy, COVID-19 Remarks in Parliament

New Delhi, March 24

Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks on the West Asia situation in Parliament, accusing him of forgetting the tragedies that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gandhi alleged that India’s foreign policy has turned into “Modi’s personal foreign policy,” which, according to him, is being seen as a “global joke.” Speaking to reporters in the Parliament complex, he said, “If a compromise is made with the Prime Minister, then a compromise is made with our foreign policy.”

Responding to questions regarding reports of Pakistan acting as a mediator between the United States, Israel, and Iran, and India’s stance on the West Asia crisis, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha reiterated, “Our foreign policy is the Prime Minister’s personal foreign policy. You can see the results—everyone considers it a global joke.”

Gandhi further remarked that former US President Donald Trump “knows exactly what Modi can and cannot do.” He added that any compromise involving the Prime Minister directly impacts India’s foreign policy.

Criticizing Modi’s recent speech, Gandhi said it was “irrelevant” and added, “He is the Prime Minister of India and should appear as such. It is unfortunate that this will harm the people.”

He also warned of emerging economic challenges, stating that issues related to LPG, petrol, and fertilizers could worsen. Referring again to Modi’s comments about a situation similar to COVID-19, Gandhi said the Prime Minister has forgotten what happened during the pandemic, including the loss of lives and the suffering endured by people. He accused the government of lacking understanding of such critical issues.
