Narendra Modi addressed the Rajya Sabha today on the situation in West Asia, stating that the ongoing crisis has become a matter of serious concern for India. He said that the conflict is affecting India’s trade routes, while the supply of essential commodities like gas and oil is being disrupted.
The Prime Minister noted that the war in West Asia has been continuing for more than three weeks, leading to a severe global energy crisis. He added that India is also facing challenges, with the regular supply of petrol, diesel, gas, and fertilizers being impacted.
He further highlighted that around one crore Indians live in Gulf countries, and their safety and livelihood remain a major concern for the country.
Modi said that several ships are currently stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, including those with Indian crew members on board. He emphasized the need for a united voice from the Upper House of India’s Parliament to call for peace and dialogue across the world.
Since the beginning of the conflict, the Prime Minister said he has been in contact with leaders of West Asian and Gulf nations. He also mentioned that he is in touch with United States and Israel regarding the situation.
Modi added that discussions have taken place on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and stressed that attacks on commercial vessels are unacceptable. India has proposed dialogue as a solution to the crisis, stating that endangering lives is not in the interest of humanity.
