Sunam Udham Singh Wala, March 12
A protest was held today outside the residence of Aman Arora, Punjab state president of the Aam Aadmi Party, demanding a strict law against incidents of sacrilege. The protest was organized by Tower Morcha Samana with the support of Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Siddhupur and several Sikh organizations. Protesters raised strong slogans against the Government of Punjab.
On the occasion, leaders including Amitoj Singh Mann, Talwinder Singh and Ran Singh Chattha criticized the Punjab government, saying that while the state government is bringing condemnation resolutions in the Assembly against its political opponents, no such resolution has been introduced so far regarding the sacrilege incidents taking place in the state.
They said that leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party had promised to come to the Tower Morcha stage and listen to the concerns of the protesters, but are now avoiding it. They also pointed out that Bhai Gurjeet Singh Khalsa has been continuing his protest by sitting on the tower for the past seventeen months over this demand.
The leaders demanded that the Punjab government enact a strict law to protect the holy scriptures of all religions in the state so that no one would dare to commit acts of sacrilege.
During the protest, a memorandum was also submitted to Sanjeev Kumar Kansal (Sanju), the personal assistant to Cabinet Minister Aman Arora.
Among those present were Bhai Amarjit Singh Kankwal, Kashmir Singh Ugrahan, Karam Singh Namol, Madan Singh Mehilan, Harjinder Singh Mehilan, Harbans Singh Khadial, Gurtej Singh Neelowal, Gurcharan Singh Namol, Bhagwant Singh Maidewas and Bhola Singh Neelowal.
