The second phase of the Budget Session of Parliament began today. The proceedings of the Lok Sabha lasted only five minutes, during which tributes were paid to deceased members. After that, the House was adjourned till 12 noon.
Meanwhile, in the Rajya Sabha, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is delivering a statement on the ongoing conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. However, continuous sloganeering and disruptions by the opposition members are being witnessed in the House.
Mallikarjun Kharge, President of the Indian National Congress, said that there should be a brief discussion on the impact of the Middle East conflict on India and the possible energy crisis.
Responding to the issue, Jaishankar said that tensions have been prevailing in the Middle East since February 28 and the situation remains tense in several Gulf countries. He emphasized that dialogue is necessary and efforts should be made to reduce tensions. He also assured that the Government of India is committed to ensuring the safety of Indians in the region.
He further informed that the situation in the Middle East and the safety of Indian nationals were discussed in a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security. The Ministry of External Affairs is in touch with those who require assistance, and necessary directions have been issued to all concerned departments.
He added that normal life and business activities in the Gulf region have been affected due to the tensions, and condolences were expressed for those who have lost their lives.
