Om Birla Says No One Has Special Privilege to Speak in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, March 12

Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, said that this is the third time in the parliamentary history of independent India that a discussion on a no-confidence motion has taken place in the Lok Sabha.

Birla said, “I have always tried to ensure that every member of the House expresses their views on issues within the rules and procedures of the House.”

He further stated that whether it is the Leader of the House, the Leader of the Opposition, or any minister, everyone has the right to speak in the House while maintaining parliamentary decorum.

He added that some people believe the Leader of the Opposition always stands above others and can speak on any subject, but no one has any such special privilege in the House.
