Dispur, March 6
An Sukhoi Su‑30MKI of the Indian Air Force that had disappeared from radar during a training exercise in Assam’s Karbi Anglong region has crashed, the Air Force confirmed late at night.
According to the Air Force, the aircraft crashed about 60 kilometers from Jorhat. A search operation has been launched in the area, but there is no information yet regarding the pilots.
Officials stated that the fighter jet was on a routine training flight when it suddenly lost contact with ground control. After the radar contact was lost, the Air Force immediately issued an alert and dispatched a team to Assam to investigate the incident.
Authorities said that efforts are currently underway to determine the exact location of the aircraft and the reasons behind the loss of communication.
It may be noted that the Sukhoi Su-30MKI is considered one of the most advanced and powerful fighter jets in the Indian Air Force fleet. The twin-engine multirole aircraft is used for critical missions including air defence and long-range surveillance.
