Bibi Ganieve Kaur Majithia Raises Women’s Dignity Issue in Punjab Assembly, Demands Action Over Bhagwant Mann’s Viral Video

Chandigarh, March 10

Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Bibi Ganieve Kaur Majithia on Tuesday strongly raised the issue in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, questioning the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs who often speak about women’s dignity and respect. She asked whether the women MLAs and other members of AAP would condemn the words used by the Chief Minister in his speeches regarding women.

She alleged that the Chief Minister frequently makes objectionable remarks about women and questioned whether anyone in the House would criticize such statements. Majithia also referred to the recent incident involving Anganwadi workers and questioned whether the way they were treated reflected respect for women.

She further objected when some members sitting on the treasury benches started laughing after the Speaker gave her the opportunity to speak. Expressing her displeasure, Majithia said, “If the Speaker has allowed me to speak, why did AAP MLAs start laughing? Is this how you all respect women in the House?”

During the exchange, several AAP women MLAs stood up and engaged in a heated argument with Majithia. However, she responded firmly to them. Soon after, her microphone was switched off. During the discussion, Majithia also raised questions in the House regarding a viral video related to the Chief Minister, which led to a moment of silence in the Assembly.

Bibi Ganieve Kaur Majithia has demanded that the Punjab State Women Commission and the National Commission for Women take cognizance of the viral video of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. She alleged that in the video, while sitting on the Chief Minister’s chair, he made inappropriate remarks about women. She stated that the Indian Constitution guarantees rights and dignity to women and demanded that a case should be registered against Bhagwant Mann.
