Akali Dal Faces Major Setback as Key Leaders, Including Charanjit Singh Kalewal, Join BJP Ahead of Elections

Chandigarh, March 30 (Punjab Samachar Bureau)

Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) suffered a major political setback when party vice president and SGPC member from Kharar, Charanjit Singh Kalewal, announced his resignation from the party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has also previously been a member of the Khalsa College Chandigarh society.

On the occasion, BJP state working president Ashwani Sharma warmly welcomed Kalewal into the party, stating that his joining would further strengthen the BJP in Punjab. He added that leaders from various parties are joining the BJP, influenced by its policies and the leadership of the Prime Minister.

Along with him, Shiromani Akali Dal’s national vice president from Tarn Taran, Ramandeep Singh Bharowal, and noted social worker from Nakodar and former general secretary of the Youth Akali Dal, Avtar Singh Kamewal, also joined the BJP along with their supporters. Their move is being seen as another significant setback for the Shiromani Akali Dal.

The newly inducted leaders stated that they are impressed by the BJP’s policies for national progress and Punjab’s development, and pledged to work day and night with full dedication to strengthen the party in the coming time.

With the assembly elections approaching, such political shifts could create new equations in Punjab politics and may impact the balance of power among parties in the near future.
