Amritsar, February 24
A delegation of Sikh representatives from the United States met Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami today and urged the SGPC to expedite the establishment of a religious preaching centre in Yuba City, California.
The delegation, led by Dalbir Singh Gill, had arrived to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib. The group included Gurmukh Singh Dhanoa, Bibi Lakhwinder Kaur, Bibi Jinderjit Kaur Gill, Bibi Charanjit Kaur Gill, and Bibi Kuldeep Kaur Dhanoa.
Speaking on the occasion, Dalbir Singh Gill said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee is the highest constitutional body of the Sikh Panth and has been consistently working for the propagation of Sikhism across the world. He stated that US-based Sikh Didar Singh Bains and his family had previously donated land in Yuba City to the SGPC. There is great enthusiasm among the Sikh community in the United States to see a religious centre established on this land to further promote Sikh teachings. He added that the Sikh community in America would extend full support to the SGPC for this initiative.
Responding to the delegation, Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the SGPC is always committed to working in accordance with the sentiments of the Sikh sangat. He noted that continuous efforts are being made, with the cooperation of the community, to further strengthen the propagation of Sikhism. Establishing a centre on the land donated in Yuba City is on the agenda, and necessary action will be taken soon. He also appealed to the Sikh community in the United States to come forward and support the initiative.
On the occasion, Dhami honoured the delegation led by Dalbir Singh Gill. Several SGPC officials, including OSD Satbir Singh, Secretary Partap Singh, Private Secretary Shahbaz Singh, Joint Secretary Harbhajan Singh Vakta, Sri Darbar Sahib Manager Bhagwant Singh Dhangera, and Superintendent Nishan Singh, were also present.
