Seven-Day Nagar Kirtan Begins at Gurdwara Guptsar Sahib to Mark 557th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak

Sri Muktsar Sahib, February 28

Nirole Sewa Sanstha Sri Muktsar Sahib today commenced its seven-day 16th grand Nagar Kirtan dedicated to the 557th Parkash Purab (birth anniversary) of Guru Nanak. The Nagar Kirtan began from the historic Gurdwara Guptsar Sahib (Tenth Patshahi) in village Chhattiana, district Sri Muktsar Sahib.

The procession started after Ardas was performed by Head Granthi Bhai Jagbir Singh of Darbar Sahib Sri Muktsar Sahib, under the holy presence of Guru Granth Sahib and the leadership of the Panj Pyare. The sacred saroop of Guru Granth Sahib was beautifully adorned with flowers and placed in a specially decorated bus-shaped palanquin.

Large models of prominent Sikh shrines — Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib, Sri Harmandir Sahib, Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib, and Gurdwara Panja Sahib — were displayed on decorated trucks as part of the procession. Sikh performers showcased Gatka skills, while a band played devotional tunes, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere. Devotees in various villages warmly welcomed the Nagar Kirtan and showered flowers on the palanquin.

Dr. Jagdeep Singh Sodhi, head of Nirole Sewa Sanstha, stated that after passing through various districts of Punjab, the Nagar Kirtan will conclude on March 6. On the final day, it will begin at 8:30 a.m. from Darbar Sahib Dera Baba Nanak and proceed towards the corridor of Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib at the Pakistan border, where the concluding Ardas will be performed.

He added that the purpose of the Nagar Kirtan is to spread the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Among those present on the occasion were Manager Bhai Nirmaljeet Singh of Sri Darbar Sahib, former managers Sumer Singh Badian and Karan Singh, along with others.
