Barnala, February 28
Addressing the Congress rally in Barnala, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge said that he was pleased to see a massive gathering of farmers and labourers in Punjab. He stated that discussions at the rally would focus on farmers’ rights. Referring to the protest against the three farm laws, he said that just as people had fought against those laws, they would now have to fight against the Central Government as well.
Kharge further said that people would have to fight a major battle on two fronts — one against the Modi government at the Centre and the other against the Punjab government. He claimed that previous Congress governments had brought laws to protect land, forests, and soil, but alleged that the present Central Government was “selling everything.”
Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kharge accused him of surrendering before former US President Donald Trump and acting according to his directions. He alleged that the Prime Minister was weakening the country and that even the BJP’s “B-team” was supporting him.
Kharge also claimed that traders in Punjab were receiving extortion calls and urged people to defeat what he termed as the BJP’s “B-team” to minimize losses. He said that landmark welfare measures such as MGNREGA, the Food Security Act, and the Right to Education Act were introduced under Congress rule, and questioned what provisions had been strengthened by the current government.
He concluded by saying that the Congress would unitedly fight under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi to safeguard the country.
