Bhagwant Mann Highlights Crackdown on Drug Trafficking, Announces School Awareness Drive

Moga, February 16

Addressing the rally, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that earlier, drugs were being trafficked even through government vehicles and the police were instructed not to arrest those involved. He said his government had promised to eliminate drug abuse and conducted thorough research to tackle the issue effectively.

He stated that merely stopping the supply of drugs is not enough. First, the government established de-addiction centres. Then, it moved to curb the supply and initiated strict action against drug traffickers. As a result, many drug smugglers have now fled villages. He added that even today, when police visit certain villages, three or four individuals lock their houses and leave out of fear.

Referring to an incident from a village under Jagraon police station, he said the entire village was troubled by a woman selling drugs. Acting swiftly, the police arrested her within an hour.

Speaking at the rally, the Chief Minister also said that he will now visit schools to create awareness among parents. He will urge them to keep a close watch on their children, while teachers will also monitor students in schools. The government’s aim, he emphasized, is to stop the creation of new customers for drug traffickers.

He further said that people must remain positive. Citing a recent report, he claimed that the number of passport applicants in Punjab has declined, indicating that more job opportunities are becoming available within the state.

Taking a dig at the opposition, he remarked that they question every action taken by the government. He alleged that when the anti-drug campaign began, opponents even visited villages secretly, trying to find a single house untouched by drugs.
