Political Heat in Punjab: Badal Questions Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Plan

Political Clash: Badal Raises Questions Over Health Schemes

Chandigarh, January 8 – Political tensions are rising in Punjab over health services, raising concerns among the public. In this context, Sukhbir Singh Badal, President of the Shiromani Akali Dal, took to social media to claim that the Bhagwant Mann government has mishandled public health.

According to Badal, the government previously wasted ₹4,500 crore on publicity and promotional activities. Now, when it comes to public health, it has merely showcased the "Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme." He further alleges that the government staged the "Aam Aadmi Clinic" initiative and tampered with the central government's "Ayushman Bharat Scheme," leaving people deprived of genuine health facilities.

Last week, full-page advertisements appeared in various newspapers, presenting this scheme as the government’s biggest achievement of the year. Badal criticized it as “merely a display of publicity and showmanship.”

In his social media post, he informed citizens that only clean, simple, and transparent schemes can truly safeguard public health—not advertisements or promotional campaigns. He emphasized that the government must immediately focus on delivering basic health facilities to the people.

Health experts also agree that Punjab lacks adequate fundamental health services. Citizens’ experiences show that, in many cases, government scheme cards and clinics exist only on paper.

With Badal’s allegations, the political climate around health schemes in Punjab has grown tense. The pressing question for the public remains: will the government focus solely on publicity and advertisements, or will it succeed in providing real, accessible health facilities to its citizens?
