Washington, March 14
Amid rising tensions in West Asia, the United States has carried out a major airstrike on a key Iranian base. US President Donald Trump claimed that the American military launched a massive bombing operation that completely destroyed all military installations on Kharg Island in Iran.
According to Trump, the strike was conducted by the United States Central Command with the objective of eliminating threats posed by Iran.
Posting on social media, Trump said the attack was one of the most powerful bombing campaigns in the history of the Middle East. He stated that US forces targeted all military facilities on Kharg Island and destroyed them completely.
However, he also noted that the United States deliberately avoided targeting the island’s oil infrastructure in order to prevent disruption to global energy supplies.
Kharg Island is considered strategically important for Iran. Located in the Persian Gulf, it serves as a major oil export hub from where a significant portion of Iran’s crude oil is shipped to various countries around the world, making it a key center of the country’s energy system.
