Rain, Thunderstorm and Hail Alert as Cold Weather Returns to Punjab and Chandigarh



Chandigarh, March 19

Intermittent rainfall over the past two days, along with snowfall in the hills, has brought back chilly conditions across Punjab and Chandigarh. The temperature has dropped by 3.5 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours and is now 4.1 degrees below normal. An orange alert has been issued for thunder, strong winds and hailstorm in some areas from today and over the next two days. Patiala recorded a temperature of 27.7 degrees Celsius.

Today, thunderstorms are likely in 5 districts, while rain is expected in 19 districts. During this period, some places in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr and Rupnagar may witness thunder, lightning and strong winds blowing at a speed of 30-40 kmph.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall may occur at a few places in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala and SAS Nagar.
