New Delhi, March 28
A discussion will be held in the lower house of Parliament on Monday regarding the government’s efforts to free the country from left-wing extremism, as Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced a deadline of March 2026 for a Naxal-free India.
According to the list of business, Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde will raise and initiate a short-duration discussion under Rule 193 of the Lok Sabha.
Amit Shah has reiterated on several occasions the Centre’s commitment to eliminate Naxalism by March 31, 2026.
Over the past year, several Maoist leaders have surrendered, laid down arms, and joined the mainstream. Among them, one of the most wanted Maoist leaders, Sukru, along with four others, surrendered before the Odisha Police on March 25.
ADG (Anti-Naxal Operations) Sanjeev Panda stated that a reward of ₹66 lakh had been announced on the Maoists. They also surrendered five weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, an INSAS rifle, and a single-shot gun.
