New Delhi, March 12
Opposition Members of Parliament created an uproar in the Lok Sabha today over the alleged cylinder shortage in the country. As soon as the House proceedings began at 11 a.m., the MPs started raising slogans. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla appealed to the members to allow the proceedings to continue, but the Opposition refused, forcing the House to be adjourned till 12 noon.
It may be noted that the Opposition’s no-confidence motion against Om Birla was rejected on Wednesday. Following this, the Speaker returned to his chair on Thursday to preside over the House proceedings.
Meanwhile, Opposition MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, staged a protest in the Parliament complex over the cylinder shortage. During the protest, they raised slogans such as “Narendra is missing, the cylinder is missing as well,” targeting the government.
Speaking to reporters, Rahul Gandhi said that the Prime Minister claims there is no need to panic, but appears to be worried himself for entirely different reasons. He alleged that the Prime Minister seems concerned over the “Epstein–Adani issue” and pointed out that the Prime Minister’s seat in the House was vacant during the proceedings on Wednesday. He added that while the Prime Minister asks the country not to panic, he himself appears to be anxious.
During the same time, in the Rajya Sabha, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of an alleged attack on former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah.
