Antonov An-26 Crashes in Crimea, All 29 On Board Feared Dead

Moscow, April 1

A Russian military transport aircraft, Antonov An-26, crashed in Crimea yesterday. There were 23 passengers and six crew members on board, and all of them died at the scene.

According to reports, the aircraft first lost contact before crashing into a rocky area. Initial investigations suggest that a technical fault may have caused the accident, though this has not yet been officially confirmed and the probe is still ongoing.

The An-26 is a Soviet-era military transport aircraft developed by Antonov, with its first flight dating back to 1969. It is commonly used for transporting troops, weapons, and military equipment, and can carry dozens of soldiers or heavy cargo at a time.

According to reports received on Wednesday morning, the aircraft lost contact while flying over Crimea at around 6:00 PM local time (1500 GMT) on Tuesday, after which news of the crash emerged.
