Sri Muktsar Sahib, March 24
An eight-year-old girl tragically lost her life after coming into contact with high-voltage power lines in a nearby village of Sri Muktsar Sahib. The incident took place in village Lambi Dhab, where Sarwan Singh, a resident of Kabarwala, had recently constructed a new grocery shop.
High-voltage electricity wires were passing over the shop. Earlier, these wires had been raised with the help of bamboo supports to prevent any mishap. However, according to villagers, the electricity department recently removed these supports, bringing the wires dangerously close to the rooftop.
On the day of the incident, Sarwan Singh’s niece, identified as Ekamdeep Kaur, aged around eight years, had accompanied her uncle to the shop. While playing, she climbed onto the roof. As she got close to the wires, she was caught in the high-voltage current.
The electric shock was so severe that the girl died on the spot, and her body was badly burnt. The scene was so horrific that it left onlookers deeply shaken.
Villagers alleged that if the wires had been kept elevated as before, the tragic incident could have been avoided. They blamed negligence on the part of the electricity department for the loss of the innocent child’s life.
