New Delhi, February 19
Praising India during his address at Bharat Mandapam, French President Emmanuel Macron said that ten years ago, a street vendor in Mumbai could not open a bank account due to lack of address, documents, and access. Today, that same vendor accepts payments on a mobile phone.
He stated that India has built a digital system unlike any other country in the world. India has created digital identities for 1.4 billion people, and its digital payments system processes nearly 20 billion transactions every month. In addition, 500 million people have been issued digital health IDs.
Macron said that all of this has created an open and connected digital ecosystem, which is also the central theme of the conference. He added that the world is now at the beginning of a new era of rapid advancement in the digital domain.
Referring to last year’s jointly hosted AI Action Summit in Paris by France and India, President Macron said that both nations had established global guiding principles for technologies that will transform societies and economies. He emphasized that Artificial Intelligence will enable humanity to innovate faster and revolutionize healthcare, energy, transportation, agriculture, and public services for the benefit of all.
He further stated that both countries believe in this transformation. AI has now become a key area of strategic competition, and major technology companies have grown even more powerful in this evolving landscape.
