Jalandhar, February 6
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Thursday morning visited the site where AAP leader Lucky Oberoi was murdered outside Sri Gurdwara Sahib in the posh Model Town area of Jalandhar. He inspected the crime scene and reviewed the situation on the spot.
Speaking to the media, the DGP said that the accused would be arrested soon. He added that he is personally coordinating with the Jalandhar Police Commissioner to gather detailed information. A review meeting has been held with the police regarding the incident.
DGP Yadav said that CCTV footage is being examined thoroughly and some documents have also been recovered from the spot. The murder is being investigated using scientific methods, and the accused will be apprehended at the earliest.
Commenting on claims made by Joga Folidwal regarding taking responsibility for the murder, the DGP said that the IP address of the person who posted the message will be tracked and the accused will be arrested. The angle of old enmity is also being probed.
Regarding the college principalship angle, the DGP said that no organised angle has surfaced so far. Police are conducting an in-depth investigation and have received certain leads, but he refrained from disclosing details at this stage.
The DGP also appealed to the youth to focus on education instead of getting involved in leadership or criminal activities. He stated that the accused have links with Pakistan’s ISI, which is supplying weapons to Punjab.
He further said that a leadership-related system is being developed to keep children away from crime. Youth are being exploited for glorification, he added. In this context, he said that last year, 12,000 notices were issued to social media platforms and 8,000 URLs were taken down.
