Punjab Government Attacking Press Freedom: Amarjit Singh Jagde Raho

Patiala, January 16 - Amarjit Singh Jagde Raho, President of the Jan Janwadi Party Punjab, stated that the Punjab government is continuously launching attacks on press freedom, which will not be tolerated at any cost. He said that the Jan Janwadi Party stands firmly with Punjab’s media and journalists.

He alleged that first the Editor-in-Chief of Daily Ajit, Dr. Barjinder Singh Hamdard, was targeted then cases were registered against independent journalists on social media and their channels were shut down. Now, the government’s raids on leading media houses of Punjab—Punjab Kesari and the Jagbani group—are a major assault on “freedom of the press” by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Aam Aadmi Party government.

Amarjit Singh Jagde Raho further said that the Punjab government is deliberately targeting media organizations that highlight public issues and expose the government’s policies that are detrimental to Punjab, thereby creating emergency-like conditions. Strongly condemning this action of the Aam Aadmi Party, he asserted that the Jan Janwadi Party stands firmly with the Punjab Kesari and Jagbani media groups.
